Discussion with SIMPUL IKN: Operational Landscape and New Hydro-social Entity

In the pursuit of sustainable and inclusive urbanization, the importance of water as a vital component for infrastructure and life in the future of Indonesia’s New Capital City (IKN) cannot be overstated. Drawing from IKN’s historical experiences and forward-looking vision, it is needed set to explore how this crucial issue aligns with an urbanization scenario that is inclusive for all stakeholders. The question at hand is – what kind of (hydro)social order would best suit the envisioned forest city?

 

To probe this topic, Vandy Yoga Swara, our doctoral researcher, presented his research on water justice and governance in Nusantara in public discussion organized by Indonesian civil society initiative for the new capital, SIMPUL IKN. He emphasized the importance of considering water and urban water infrastructure as hydro-social entity to ensure sustainable and inclusive urbanization.
